Friday yoga blogging: pose of the laughing god

Hamunasana is a pose dedicated to the laughing god, who is represented as a monkey. It is also an advanced split, so laughing is not the first thing I think of in this pose. I usually wince.

I can't go into the whole pose, since I'm not terribly flexible. However, by using the "less is more" idea to some extent, I take an intermediate pose, and intend myself toward the full pose. I usually use blocks or blankets to help me stay in the intermediate pose. It's pretty humbling, and shows me how much growth I have ahead of me, and is a reflection of the mental and emotional development that I also need--and that yoga has to offer.
